Volunteer At A Project
Teaching, tutoring, and other volunteer opportunities exist at all of GALA's projects in Nepal, and at children's homes and orphanages where children served by GALA-supported schools live. Unlike many other organizations that arrange similar opportunities, GALA does not charge a fee to volunteers. Make a difference and have a life-changing experience. Contact Global Alternative Learning Alliance at volunteer@gala-ed.org to learn more about volunteering opportunities. What volunteers have to say:"During my two months in Nepal I worked with children at Milky Way School in Arubari. I felt welcomed and comfortable, and most importantly free to be creative with my lessons and art projects. I implemented a solar system lesson which included learning the English and Nepali words, coloring and painting, and involving all the children in a project that they then could see hanging on the wall. I had a blast working with these kids and will never forget my time in this beautiful village near Kathmandu. I feel blessed to be a part of this project and will take these memories with me forever." Erin Stone
**** "Many of the children I teach faced harsh living conditions before they became part of the Junkiri and PA Nepal family. For these children, hope has been given to them in a world where in other parts of the city bands of street children sit around, sniff glue, and beg for one or two rupees. My time teaching at Junkiri has been very rewarding. The children show love, compassion, and friendliness one would not expect from children with their backgrounds. They are mentally mature to a large degree, and it shows in their actions and dedication to their school work. I have seen the great gifts and joys that are offered to the children of Junkiri and PA Nepal." John Sebastien Florey
**** “Volunteering at PA Nepal and Junkiri has been the most wonderful and rewarding experience in my life. The children are all sweet and strong in their own way. It is amazing to see them playing and laughing despite all their adversities. As a volunteer, you are welcomed as if you were part of the family. I am grateful for the opportunity to have spent time with Indira and the children in their home and school.” Maribel Ramos **** “I volunteered at Hopeful Home children's home in Nepal, and absolutely loved it, not just because it was a new experience, but because I learned about Nepal on a much more personal level. I arrived thinking I would just be playing with the kids and helping them with their homework, but I left feeling like they had taught me much more than I could ever teach them. I will definitely come back.” Scott Crawford **** “I’m in Kathmandu to volunteer at the P.A. Nepal Children’s Home and at the Junkiri School. The kids are so beautiful and interesting, far more interesting than any little kid that I’ve met before. They are so independent and sweet but they still need a lot of help. I’m helping one of the teachers, Rajep, with educating the kids in English and Math. The class is small, containing seven kids with ages ranging from ten to twelve. I spend most of my time at P.A. Nepal because that’s when the kids let loose. They have so much energy and it never stops. In Nepal I’ve learned things and felt things that I can’t explain in words. This is definitely a life changing experience for me. Nepal is a shock at first but it grows on you.” Kevin Ikuta
